A Denver  rally in the second half fell short as the New England Patriots beat the Broncos 31-21 Sunday afternoon. The Patriot offense absolutely owned the first half and part of the 3rd quarter, jumping out to a 31-7 lead as quarterback Tom Brady went 23 of 31 for 223 yards with one passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown as well. The Broncos made a game of it in the 2nd half with a couple of touchdown passes from Peyton Manning. He was 31 of 44 for 345 yards but Denver also lost the turnover battle 3-1 including a critical Manning fumble with 3:42 to go in the game. The Broncos will play  next Monday night when they host San Diego.

In college football over the weekend, the Wyoming Cowboys lost an overtime battle at Nevada 25-28 Saturday night in Reno. The Pokes rallied from 14 points down in the first half but also watched quarterback Brett Smith ejected after 2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Before being thrown out of the game, Smith was 21 of 34 for 197 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 rushing TD. The Cowboys are now 0-1 in conference play and 1-4 overall as they host Air Force for Homecoming Saturday at 5:00pm. The Falcons (1-1 and 2-3 overall) also lost in overtime to Navy 28-21.

In baseball off the field, the Colorado Rockies will be looking for a new manager Jim Tracy has resigned after the team endured their worst season in franchise history. The Rockies went 64-98 this past season and many times were fundamentally deficient. Tracys' career record was 294-308 and was voted National League Manager of the Year in 2009 when the Rockies made the playoffs.

In the baseball playoffs from Sunday over in the National League, Washington earned their first post season win since 1933 beating St. Louis 3-2 in the opening game of their NLDS. Cincinnati has a 2 games to none lead over San Francisco with the Reds winning the first 2 games on the road, the final Sunday 9-0. Over in the American League, New York scored 5 runs in the top of the ninth to beat Baltimore 7-2 to take the opening game of that ALDS. And Detroit  leads Oakland 2 games to none with wins at home. On Sunday the Tigers  scored  a run in the ninth inning for a 5-4 victory. The Washington/St. Louis series continues this afternoon with the Yankees/O's series tonight.
