Casper College has added two new degree programs and three certificates, and has updated a degree program for the 2018-2019 school year, according to a news release Wednesday.

The new degrees are in American Sign Language studies, and kinesiology and health promotion.

The new certificates are for coaching, personal training, and foundations of interprofessional health care.

The updated degree program is in cyber security, formerly called computer security.

The American Sign Language studies degree offers further training to work with deaf people. Students will develop their knowledge of ASL and the culture of deafness in North America and around the world.

This associate of arts degree gives students the background to transfer to ASL studies, ASL interpreting, or deaf education baccalaureate programs. The career possibilities include language interpretation, teaching the deaf and speech pathology.

The kinesiology and health promotions degree gives the background to further study  health promotion, clinical exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, basic science, behavior science, sports, and physical education.

This associate of science degree is for students who plan to transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree and enter the field of medicine, specifically within the related areas of allied health professions.

Three new certificates will be offered through the Casper College School of Health Science:

  • The coaching certificate will educate students to become an endorsed coach through the Wyoming Professional Teachers Standards Board. Other certificates which relate to the college's coaching certificate include first aid and CPR.
  • The personal training certificate program offers career possibilities in health and fitness clubs, wellness centers, public and private recreation facilities, hospitals, and corporate fitness programs.
  • The foundations of interprofessional healthcare certificate program, a two-semester program, will be available to admitted or pre-health science students who intend to  work on an interprofessional healthcare team.

The renamed and revamped cyber security degree program trains students to find and remove data from a variety of digital media and protect computer information systems from malignant uses, computer viruses, and emerging digital threats. Students will have the skills to work in information technology support in an information assurance line of work.
