The 79th person killed on Wyoming highways this year has been identified as a 47-year-old Casper man.

David S. Edwards died Monday at the scene of the crash in a construction zone on Interstate 25 near Wheatland. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Sgt. Kyle McKay of the Wyoming Highway Patrol said in a news release that Edwards was northbound in a 2009 GMC delivery truck when, at approximately 5 p.m., he partially drove the truck off the east side of the highway.

Edwards then over-corrected to the left and entered the southbound lane of travel, where his truck hit the driver's side of a trailer being hauled by a commercial truck. The GMC then spun out of control onto the ramp at Exit 100, where it came to rest against a guardrail.

The driver of the commercial truck was able to come to a controlled stop several hundred feet from the collision.

Edwards died at the scene.

McKay says 79 people have died on Wyoming highways so far in 2018. That's compared to 108 fatalities at this point in 2017, 86 deaths in 2016 and 112 in 2015.
