Casper police officers arrested a woman early Thursday morning after she reported a burglary at her home, leading police to find evidence of methamphetamine use in the residence where a child also lived.

Shannon Lee Carrington was booked into jail on recommended charges of methamphetamine possession, marijuana possession and child endangerment with methamphetamine. She will likely make her initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court at 2 p.m. Thursday.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, four police officers responded to a residence in the 500 Block of North Elk for a report of an ongoing residential burglary at 4:15 a.m. Thursday. Carrington had called police to report that two men armed with guns had broken into her home.

Carrington had fled to her mother's house next door. She stayed there while officers cleared her residence.

Nobody was found inside Carrington's home, but police did locate a number of used syringes as well as two baggies containing methamphetamine residue. A purple glass pipe was also found.

Carrington told the officers that the man whom she reported as the burglar had been allowed to stay with her for two weeks, but she kicked him out due to drug use. She denied knowing anything about the drug paraphernalia, but did admit that the marijuana pipe belonged to her.

She told police that she believed the alleged burglar had broken into the home in order to set her up.

Additional drug paraphernalia was located inside Carrington's home after police were granted a search warrant. Officers noted that the items would have been easily accessible to a four-year-old child who also lived in the home.

The child was taken into protective custody. A urine sample provided by Carrington indicated a presumptive positive result for recent meth and marijuana use.
