UNDATED (AP) — Just two games separate five teams vying for the final American League wild-card berth.

Tampa Bay's lead continued to shrink with a 7-3 loss to the Red Sox. Boston blew an early 3-0 lead before Mike Carp hit a grand slam in the 10th inning. The teams play again tonight.

The New York Yankees are within one game of the Rays after turning a 3-1 deficit into a 5-4 triumph in Baltimore. Robinson Cano (kuh-NOH') snapped a 3-3 deadlock with a solo blast leading off the ninth after Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez went deep to knot the score.

Chris Davis hit a two-run double to become the first Oriole in team history with 40 doubles and 40 homers, but the Birds stayed 1 ½ games behind the Rays.

Cleveland is also 1 ½ games behind Tampa Bay after losing 6-2 to Kansas City. Alex Gordon led off the game with a homer and scored twice to help the Royals get within two games of the Rays. Emilio Bonifacio (boh-nih-FAH'-see-oh) had three hits and scored twice to back Steve Shields, who allowed two runs and four hits in eight innings.

Oakland and Detroit were able to pad their division leads.

The Athletics erupted for 10 runs in the fourth inning and cruised to an 18-3 pounding of Minnesota. Jed Lowrie fueled the big rally with a two-run double that was initially called a foul ball until umpires reversed the call through video review. Lowrie, Coco Crisp and Stephen Vogt also homered. Yoenis Cespedes had three RBIs to help the A's score their most runs in a game since beating Boston 20-2 in August 2012. The 22-hit attack helped the Athletics move three-games ahead of second-place Texas in the AL West.

The Tigers pulled out a 1-0 win as Anibal (AH'-nih-bahl) Sanchez struck out 10 while scattering five hits in 7 1/3 innings. Neither team scored until Omar Infante's RBI single in the eighth helped Detroit move 6 ½ games ahead of the second-place Indians.

St. Louis remains tops in the NL Central, one game ahead of Pittsburgh and three games better than Cincinnati.

Matt Adams hit a two-run homer while the Cardinals were scoring four times in the eighth to beat Milwaukee 5-1. Lance Lynn struck out 10 in six innings for the Cardinals, who were no-hit for the first five innings and didn't take their first lead until Carlos Beltran's sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Clint Barmes (BAHR'-mehs) hit a solo homer and drew a bases-loaded walk as the Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the Rangers, 7-5 at Texas. Justin Morneau (MOHR'-noh) had four hits and scored twice for the Pirates.

Mike Leake combined with four relievers on a six-hitter as Cincinnati blanked the Chicago Cubs 6-0. Pinch-hitter Jack Hanahan put the game out of reach with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. Devin Mesoraco (mehz-ah-RAH'-koh) hit a solo homer as the Reds avoided a three-game sweep.

Also in the majors, Jose Fernandez was fantastic in Miami's 5-2 win over Atlanta, hitting a home run and allowing only one run and five hits in seven innings. Giancarlo Stanton belted a two-run homer and had three RBIs as the Marlins kept the Braves' magic number for clinching the NL East at seven.

The Dodgers' magic number for claiming the NL West remains six after Tyler Corbin pitched into the seventh inning of Arizona's 4-1 win at Los Angeles. Paul Goldschmidt supplied a pair of RBI singles to support Corbin's 14th win.

Washington remains six games behind Cincinnati for the final NL wild-card berth after Dan Haren combined with four relievers in a three-hitter in the Nationals' 3-0 shutout of the Mets. Ryan Zimmerman hit a solo homer to open the scoring in the sixth inning before Anthony Rendon's two-run double capped the scoring in the eighth inning of the Nats' fifth straight win.

Marco Scutaro (SKOO'-tah-roh) and Brandon Belt hit RBI singles in the bottom of the eighth to complete San Francisco's comeback in a 4-3 win over Colorado. The Giants rallied after Nolan Arenado hit a pair of RBI singles to help the Rockies build a 3-1 lead.

Freddy Galvis hit a solo homer, lifted a sacrifice fly and scored the tiebreaking run on a grounder as Philadelphia downed San Diego 4-2. Cliff Lee allowed a pair of solo homers but just three other hits while striking out nine over eight innings.

Toronto grabbed an early 3-0 lead before Mark Trumbo's two-run homer sparked the Angels' rally in a 5-4 win over the Blue Jays. Kole Calhoun's sacrifice fly broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth.

Brad Peacock limited the Mariners to a run and three hits in six innings of Houston's 6-1 win at Seattle. Chris Carter's two-run single put the Astros ahead 5-0 in the third inning.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Derek Jeter began the season on the disabled list, and that is how it will end.

The New York Yankees shortstop will miss the rest of the season after being placed on the disabled list Wednesday with an ankle injury. The 39-year-old Yankee captain called this season "a nightmare."

Jeter last played Saturday against Boston and started the year on the disabled list after breaking his left ankle in the 2012 playoffs. He returned to the DL twice more and played in only 17 games, batting .190 with one homer and seven RBIs.
