UNDATED (AP) — Jon Lester pitched into the eighth inning before leaving with an apparent injury, and Dustin Pedroia homered in a seven-run second to help the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4 in the opener of a four-game series.

Lester retired 10 straight to begin the game and didn't allow a hit until the fifth. The Red Sox lead the AL East.

After the game, the Blue Jays put outfielder Melky Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis.

In other AL action:

— Chris Davis drove in the tiebreaking run for the Orioles, not with a home run, but a fielder's choice grounder in a wild five-run fifth inning, and Baltimore rallied for a 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians.

— The Twins grabbed a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on the arm of Samuel Deduno and Justin Morneau's bat. Deduno gave up only five hits and one walk in seven sharp innings, while Morneau drove in Minnesota's first run with one of his two doubles.

— Didi Gregorius' 11th inning bunt drove in the winning run as the NL West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Nationals 3-2 to salvage the finale of a three-game series in Washington. The Nationals slip back to .500 and trail the Braves by 5 ½ in the NL East.

— Marlon Byrd hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning then threw out a runner from right field in the ninth to lead the New York Mets past the Colorado Rockies 3-2.
