Casper police continue to search for a suspect in connection with a shots-fired call that turned into an action by the Natrona County Special Response Team late Sunday into early Monday.

Sgt. Joey Wilhelm of the Casper Police Department told reporters that police have identified the suspect and are searching for him, though Wilhelm declined to release the suspect's name. No arrest had been made as of Monday morning.

Wilhelm emphasized that no danger to the public exists in relation to the incident.

Police responded to the 1100 block of Burlington Avenue at roughly 10:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of gunshots. Wilhelm says a disturbance occurred, and one person pulled a handgun. That person then fired several rounds.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.

When officers arrived in the area, they began to search for a person that Detective Tiffany Elhart described as a "person of interest." That search continued for hours.

SRT officers armed with long guns parked an armored vehicle in front of a residence and used a loudspeaker to communicate with anyone who may have been inside. Officers gave commands for a person to come out with their hands up.

No one was taken into custody following the incident. Law enforcement cleared the scene in the early hours of Monday morning.

Following an initial news report published by K2 Radio News as the situation developed late Sunday, some on social media questioned whether the incident was related to the fatal shooting of Troy Mabbit, which occurred in March in the same area. Wilhelm dismissed the idea.

"It's not related to that at all," Wilhelm told reporters on Monday.
