Today (October 3rd, 2018) hundreds of millions of cell phone owners received a test message from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The question is: did you receive the message?

The message read:

Presidential Alert: THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.

According to a recent story published by CNN, about 225 million electronic devices were sent the test.

We polled the approximate forty people in our building and an astonishing low number actually received the message; three to be exact.

There are over 325 million people in the United States, so that does leave a considerable amount of the population that wouldn't get the message.

It is worth mentioning, that although the message does state Presidential Alert, but the president doesn't actually compose it.

A senior FEMA official told CNN:

The President will not originate this alert, say, from his mobile device. You would not have a situation where any sitting president would wake up one morning and attempt to send a particular message.

Most of my fellow co-workers have iPhones and get their service from Verizon, but there are still some Android users and those that have AT&T as their provider. Of the three people here that received the message, all had Apple devices and were on Verizon .

Did you receive the Presidential Alert and what service carrier and phone do you have?
