The 144th running of the Kentucky Derby is coming May 5th, 2018 and if you didn't know, pari-mutuel wagering is legal in Wyoming. Horse racing fans looking for a fun way to gather with family and friends can make a few wagers on the upcoming Kentucky Derby at Casper Off Track Betting facilities (must be 18 yrs old or older to make wager in Wyoming).

Often referred to as the greatest two minutes in sports, the Kentucky Derby is the first leg of the Triple Crown. The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred racing is an extremely difficult accomplishment and consists of winning three high profile races - The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness Stakes and the Belmont States.

American Pharoah was the first horse in 37 years to win the triple crown, completing the Triple Crown back in 2015,.  He was the first horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed pulled off the feat back in 1978.

Will there be a new stand out thoroughbred to make a run for the triple crown this year? We hope so, but time will tell.

In Wyoming, horse racing fans can make wagers at their local 'Off Track Betting' facilities located across the state. There are two OTB's currently located in Casper:

The Horse Palace - can be found inside of the Beacon Club, located at 4100 West Yellowstone in Mills, WY.  Offering Historical Horse Racing machines along with simulcast races from across the country. (307) 237-0322

Wyoming Downs - can be found inside of Galloway's Irish Pub at El Marco Lanes.  Located at 2800 CY Ave. in Casper they offer wagering on simulcast races from multiple locations across the country. (307) 472-7529

** Wyoming Downs moved from their previous Shilo Inn location in Evansville to their new location inside Galloway's.

If you're looking for a place to make a wager you can do so at either OTB.  But if you're wanting to make a day of it with a group of friends, I'd recommend calling ahead and reserving a table and OTB's will be very crowded on Derby Day!
