UNDATED (AP) — The New York Rangers finally played their home opener on Monday after enduring a season-opening, nine-game road trip while workers placed the finishing touches on a $1 billion renovation of Madison Square Garden. It'll be at least one more home game before Rangers fans can celebrate a victory, or even a goal.

Peter Budaj (BOO'-dy) stopped 27 shots as the Montreal Canadiens downed the Blueshirts 2-0, dropping the Rangers to 3-7. Tomas Plekanec (pleh-KAH'-nehts) provided the game-winner in the second period, his fifth goal in the Habs' last six games. Alex Galchenyuk (gahl-CHEHN'-yuhk) capped the scoring with 2:51 remaining.

__ Chris Kunitz (KOO'-nits) snapped a 1-1 standoff in the second period before Pittsburgh completed a 3-1 win over Carolina to end a two-game skid. Brooks Orpik assisted on all three Penguins goals to help his team grab a share of the Eastern Conference lead.

__ Chicago whipped Minnesota 5-1 as Brandon Saad (sahd) and Patrick Kane each had a goal and an assist. Corey Crawford turned back 29 shots to help the Blackhawks improve to 7-2-3.

__ Matt Moulson scored twice in his Buffalo debut, but the Sabres surrendered three goals in the first period of a 4-3 loss to Dallas. Tyler Seguin (SAY'-gihn) had a goal and an assist as the Stars kept the Sabres winless at home this season.

— Daniel Sedin (suh-DEEN') scored the game-winner in the third period and added an assist as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Washington Capitals 3-2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Ducks center Saku Koivu (SAK'-oo KOY'-voo) has returned to Anaheim for tests after taking a hard hit during Sunday's game at Columbus.

Koivu was knocked unconscious on a hit by Columbus' Brandon Dubinsky, who was ejected from Anaheim's 4-3 victory over the Blue Jackets. Koivu must be tested and evaluated before he is allowed to return to the Ducks, per NHL protocol.
