Region-IX Volleyball Tournament Begins Today in Powell-Daily Sports Update

The Region-IX North Volleyball Tournament begins today at Northwest College in Powell. Casper College plays Eastern Wyoming this afternoon at 2:00. The T-Birds are the 4th seed and Eastern Wyoming is 5th. The Lady T-Birds come into the tourney with a 19-16 record. LCCC plays Sheridan College in the other first round match up. Northwest College and Western Wyoming of Rock Springs recieves first round byes. This is a double elimination tournament that will conclude on Saturday with the winner advancing to the national JUCO tournament in West Plains, Missouri.

In men's college basketball, the Wyoming Cowboys will have an exhibition game tonight at Wyoming Indian High School in Ethete to meet Fort Lewis. The Cowboys with 2 returning starters in Leonard Washington and Luke Martinez. Tip off tonight is at 7:00.

The Wyoming Cowboys host Colorado State this Saturday in the 104th edition of the Border War game. Head Coach Dave Christensen is back at the helm after serving a one game suspension for his tirade directed at Air Force Head Coach Troy Calhoun following the Pokes one point loss to the Falcons. He was also docked $50,000 in pay. The  Cowboys are 1-7 and Rams are 2-6. The Cowboys have won the last 3 Border Wars and haven't won 4 in a row since the early 1970's. Kickoff is at 2:30pm on AM 1030 KTWO.

The Denver Nuggets will open up their NBA regular season tonight at Philadelphia. The Nuggets a trendy pick to win the Western Conference, despite the likes of Oklahoma City and L.A. Lakers. The Nuggets and guard Ty Lawson are close to finalizing a $48-million contract extension. Lawson averaged 16 points and 6 assists a game last season for Denver.

Wyoming high school football playoffs move into the semifinals in all 5 divisions this Friday. In 4A, top ranked Natrona plays hosts to 4th ranked Cheyenne East. Kickoff is at 7:00pm from Mustang Stadium with the pregame show at 6:45 on AM 1400 ESPN.
