Rockies Lose Rain Delayed Game 3-1 – MLB Roundup For May 10th

UNDATED (AP) — Cleveland completed a four-game sweep of the Athletics with 9-2 victory. The Indians got home runs from Nick Swisher, Mark Reynolds and Jason Kipnis in the win. The benefactor of all the offense was Scott Kazmir, who upped his record to 2-1. He went six allowing one run and 5 hits with 10 strikeouts. Reynolds' blast was his 11th of the season, most in the American League.

During the game, Major League Baseball acknowledged that an "improper call" was made by umpires in the ninth inning of Wednesday night's game between the Indians and A's. However, MLB executive vice president Joe Torre says the incorrect judgment call by umpire Angel Hernandez and his crew "stands as final."

Oakland's Adam Rosales hit what appeared to be a game-tying home run in the ninth, which was ruled in play by the umpires. After a replay review, the umps upheld the call on the field, keeping the Athletics from tying the game and setting off manager Bob Melvin, who was ejected.

__ Minnesota spanked Boston 5-3. Oswaldo Arcia hit a two-run homer off John Lackey, who fell to 1-3. He didn't help himself by committing a costly throwing error on a potential inning-ending double play. The Red Sox have lost six of seven.

__ Kansas City beat Baltimore 6-2 to avoid a three-game sweep. Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer homered in a four-run fourth inning off loser Freddy Garcia.

__ Tampa Bay nipped Toronto 5-4 in 10 innings. Luke Scott drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the 10th inning to drive in the winning run.

— Center fielder Juan Lagares robbed Andrew McCutchen of a go-ahead hit in the top of the ninth inning, then pinch-hitter Mike Baxter's single in the bottom half sent the New York Mets over the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2.

__ Washington finished an abbreviated two-game interleague sweep by holding off the Detroit Tigers 5-4. Ryan Mattheus, Drew Storen and Rafael Soriano combined for shutout relief after Dan Haren nearly squandered a four-run lead. Soriano closed it out for his 12th save in 13 chances.

__ The L.A. Angels rallied with three in the eighth to beat last-place Houston 6-5 to end a four-game losing streak. Mark Trumbo hit a two-run double in the eighth inning before Alberto Callaspo's go-ahead sacrifice fly. The game took 4 hours, 7 minutes —longest nine-inning contest in the majors this season, according to STATS.

__ Arizona nipped Philadelphia 2-1. Patrick Corbin threw six-plus strong innings and drove in a run. Corbin is 5-0.
