The Colorado Rockies lost their season opener Monday afternoon in Milwaukee to the Brewers 5-4 in 10-innings, as Rickie Weeks scored the game winning run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Johnathan Lucroy. Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin pitched well allowing just 3 hits working into the 7th inning. But the Rockies bullpen failed down the stretch coughing up a 2 run lead in the 8th inning. At the plate, Troy Tulowitski went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI's and a home run. Carlos Conzoles also went 2 for 5 and a home run. Dexter Fowler with a home run in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 4 before the Brewers won it in the 10th. Game two of the opening series is tonight.

In the National Hockey League, the Colorado Avalanche lost to the Detroit Red Wings on the road Monday night 3-2. The Red Wings scored the first 3 goals before the Av's got on the board with the next two. The Av's are 12-19-4 and sit in last place in the Western Conference.

The Wyoming Cavalry return to the Casper Events Center this Friday night when they host Tri-Cities. The Cavs are still searching for their first win of the season under new coach Ryan Lingenfelder. They lost to Colorado Friday night 54-36. Wyoming is 0-4 and Tri-Cities is at 1-3 on the season.

Two college basketball programs have hired new coaches. USC has hired Andy Enfield from Florida Gulf Coast. He was 41-28 in 2 seasons there and leading the Eagles to the Sweet 16 of this year's NCAA tournament as the 15th seed. Texas Tech will hire Tubby Smith who was fired by Minnesota last week. Smith took the Gophers this year's tournament where they were 1-1. Texas Tech was 11-20 and 3-15 in the Big 12 Conference.
