Rockies Win Gives De La Rosa His 10th – MLB Roundup For July 25th

UNDATED (AP) — The Atlanta Braves may have lost their top starting pitcher for the remainder of the season.

Tim Hudson suffered a fractured right ankle in the eighth inning of the Braves' 8-2 win over the New York Mets. Hudson was working on a four-hit shutout when Eric Young Jr. hit a grounder that was knocked down by first baseman Freddie Freeman. Hudson went to the bag and made the putout before Young stepped on the back of Hudson's lower leg.

EMS workers strapped Hudson to a backboard and drove him off the field on a cart. Surgery will be performed once the swelling goes down. It's unclear how long Hudson will be out or whether he'll be able to pitch again this season.

Hudson went 4-3 with a 3.05 ERA in his nine starts.

Dan Uggla (UG'-lah) hit a three-run homer, Andrelton Simmons hit a two-run blast and Evan Gattis added a solo shot as the Braves beat the Mets for the second time in three nights.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a six-game winning streak after rallying against Toronto for the second straight night.

Mark Ellis hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer while the Dodgers were scoring five times in the 10th inning to beat the Blue Jays 8-3. Yasiel Puig (YAH'-see-ul pweeg) also homered in the 10th for the Dodgers, who stormed back from an 8-3 deficit to win Tuesday's game 10-8.

Los Angeles was one out away from losing for just the sixth time in 28 games until center fielder Colby Rasmus misplayed Andre Ethier's single, allowing Puig to score the tying run.

The Dodgers have won 10 straight on the road, the franchise's longest streak since the Brooklyn Dodgers won their first 11 away from home in 1955.

Nate Schierholtz capped his 3-hit, 5-RBI night by supplying the tiebreaking double in the 12th inning of the Chicago Cubs' 7-6 win at Arizona. Schierholtz also hit a three-run homer for the Cubs, who blew a 6-0 lead before dropping the Diamondbacks 1 ½ games behind the NL West-leading Dodgers

Tampa Bay won for the 19th time in 22 games as David Price needed just 97 pitches to toss a five-hitter in the Rays' 5-1 win over the Red Sox in Boston. Price improved to 4-1 with a 1.76 ERA in five starts since coming off the disabled list.

Wil Myers hit a two-run single to help the Rays pull within a half-game of the first-place Bosox in the American League East.

James Loney had two hits and an RBI for the Rays, who were seven games behind Boston on June 28.

Also in the majors, Coco Crisp launched a two-run homer while Oakland was scoring three times in the seventh to beat Houston 4-3. John Jaso (JAY'-soh) hit a solo homer for the A's, who trailed 3-1 in the seventh before beating the Astros for the 11th time in 12 tries this season. A.J. Griffin tied a season high with eight strikeouts and allowed three runs and six hits in his ninth win.

Matt Garza was sharp in his Texas debut, allowing just an unearned run while pitching into the eighth inning of a 3-1 triumph against the New York Yankees. A.J. Pierzynski (peer-ZIHN'-skee) had two RBIs, including a tiebreaking, solo homer in the sixth before David Murphy homered two innings later.

Eric Hosmer homered twice before Alcides (al-SEE'-dehs) Escobar doubled home the walkoff run in the ninth inning of Kansas City's 4-3 win over Baltimore. Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen (way-yihn chehn) had a 3-1 lead in the eighth until Hosmer belted a two-run homer.

Homers by Prince Fielder, Austin Jackson and Torii Hunter powered Detroit past the Chicago White Sox 6-2. Anibal Sanchez held the White Sox to six hits in six scoreless innings of the Tigers' fourth straight victory, which keeps the AL Central leaders 3 ½ games ahead of Cleveland.

Scott Kazmir allowed an unearned run and just one hit over eight sparkling innings as the Indians hammered Seattle 10-1. Kazmir struck out seven and allowed only a fifth-inning single by Justin Smoak to help the Indians end the Mariners' eight-game winning streak. Michael Bourn hit his first career grand slam and Carlos Santana added a pair of RBI doubles.

Matt Adams had three RBIs and Shane Robinson hit a bases-loaded triple as St. Louis clobbered Philadelphia 11-3 to keep its 1 ½-game lead over Pittsburgh in the NL Central. Jake Westbrook had his first career three-hit game, picked up his second career steal and allowed three runs and nine hits in seven innings.

Francisco Liriano struck out eight while limiting Washington to two hits in 7 2/3 shutout innings, leading Pittsburgh to a 4-2 win against the Nationals. Pedro Alvarez hit a solo homer and later scored during a three-run ninth that put the Pirates ahead 4-0. Jayson Werth hit a two-run homer for the Nationals, who've dropped six straight to fall nine games behind the NL East-leading Braves.

Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips and Devin Mesoraco drove in two runs apiece as Cincinnati whipped San Francisco 8-3 to stay five games behind the NL Central-leading Cardinals. Mesoraco had eight hits and seven RBIs in the four-game series

Jorge De La Rosa picked up his 10th win in Colorado's 2-1 decision over Miami, holding the Marlins to five hits in six shutout innings. Todd Helton doubled and scored a run for the Rockies.

Milwaukee was a 3-1 winner against San Diego as Kyle Lohse (lohsh) allowed five hits in seven innings. Carlos Gomez had four hits and two RBIs in the Brewers' first victory since outfielder Ryan Braun was suspended for the remainder of the season for violations of Major League Baseball's drug policy.

Jered Weaver struck out nine and allowed just two hits in eight innings of the Angels' 1-0 win over Minnesota. Weaver retired 19 consecutive batters during one stretch and improved to 8-2 with a 3.28 ERA lifetime against the Twins. Neither team scored after Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz) poked an RBI single in the first inning.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A doctor retained by Alex Rodriguez for a second opinion on his leg injury Wednesday was reprimanded this year by New Jersey's board of medical examiners over steroid prescriptions. The New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners filed an order of reprimand against Dr. Michael Gross on Feb. 13 for his conduct at his Active Center for Health & Wellness. Rodriguez is one of more than a dozen players under investigation by Major League Baseball for alleged ties to a Florida clinic accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs.

Rodriguez has reported back to the New York Yankees' minor league complex, three days after he was diagnosed with a strained left quadriceps on the final day of his injury rehabilitation assignment. He says he feels great.

In other major league news, the Mariners say manager Eric Wedge suffered a "very mild stroke" this week but was well enough to be released from a hospital. The 45-year-old Wedge was hospitalized Monday after complaining about light-headedness during batting practice. Bench coach Robby Thompson served as acting manager during the team's three-game set against the Indians and will continue to run the club for the next three series.

The Boston Red Sox and All-Star second baseman Dustin Pedroia (peh-DROY'-uh) have finalized an eight-year, $110 million contract that will run through the 2021 season. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound infielder was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2007 and AL MVP in 2008. Pedroia is hitting .306 this season with 25 doubles, six home runs and 58 RBIs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed Matt Kemp on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle. Kemp came off the DL before Sunday's 9-2 win over the Washington Nationals, after being sidelined 11 games with a sore left shoulder. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, but limped off the field after sliding into home plate in the ninth inning and has not played since.
