After what would have to be considered the worst year of his life both personally, and professionally, Tiger Woods opened the 2011 golf season in strong fashion. It took just three holes to make a birdie in the Farmers Insurance Open on Thursday. On the 12th hole of Torrey Pines North Course, Tiger hit his second shot to 3 feet.

Tiger did miss miss a few opportunities too, he was displeased on the par 5s,14 and 18 where he missed chances at birdie to improve on his round.

“I just think I didn’t drive the ball well on the par-5s. I hit two good drives in there and unfortunately they’d land on the fairway but didn’t stay on the fairway, so I had no shot. The other two I hit terrible tee shots and put myself in bad spots.”

Tiger continues to work with Sean Foley to get some kinks out of his new swing, and continues to be happy with the progress.

It’s better, it’s getting better. It’s an evolution. Today I felt like I was able to control the ball most of the day, and hit some really good shots,” Woods said.
