For the second time this season, Wyoming forward Kayla Woodward earned Mountain West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played from Jan. 28-Feb. 3, 2013. It is the fourth honor of her MW career.

Woodward, a sophomore from Sheridan, Wyo., led Wyoming to a 2-0 record with a road win at New Mexico (72-54) and a home victory over Colorado State (82-67). Against the Lobos, Woodward scored four of the first six points to give Wyoming an early 6-4 lead. She finished the game with a team-high 20 points, to go with a career-high five steals, seven rebounds and two assists. In the Border War with the Rams, Wyoming was down 20-16 before Woodward scored nine of the Cowgirls’ next 14 points to pull even with CSU. After intermission, Woodward hit the first basket of the second half to give Wyoming a 40-37 lead and scored eight of the first 16 second-half points to extend the Cowgirls’ lead to 11, 54-43. She played a season-high 40 minutes against CSU, scoring a team-high 22 points with seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks.

For the week, Woodward was 17-of-32 (.531) from the floor and hit 5-of-6 (.833) from the free throw line. She averaged 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals over the two games. Woodward also recorded three blocked shots during the week.
