The Wyoming Cowgirls are back in the post-season in 2013. For the seventh time in school history, UW received an invitation to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) on Monday evening. Wyoming will host the Northern Colorado Bears, on Thursday, March 21, in a WNIT First Round Game at 7 p.m. This is the fifth time in the last eight years Wyoming has made an appearance in the WNIT.

This year’s WNIT appearance by the Cowgirls marks the sixth postseason tournament berth in head coach Joe Legerski’s ten seasons at Wyoming.  UW will be playing in the WNIT for the fifth time during Legerski’s tenure, advancing to the Second Round in 2006, winning the 2007 WNIT title and moving in to the Third Round in 2010 and 2011.  Wyoming also earned the schools’ first-ever bid to the NCAA Women’s Tournament in 2008.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to play at this time of the season,” said Cowgirl head coach Joe Legerski. “This now makes six years that the Wyoming program has played in postseason in my time here. We look forward to the challenges ahead. The ability to host a game reflects the commitment by our administration and our great fan support.”

The Cowgirls have an 11-7 all-time record in the WNIT. Their best finish came in 2007, when UW had their amazing run and finished as WNIT Champions.
