Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Rankings: Feb. 20, 2014

The coaches and media rankings will soon have no further say as to which team MIGHT be the best, because the best will be holding the trophy that they earned on the court.

Unanimous #1 Sheridan and unanimous #3 Gillette may be on top of the 4A East division, but #4 East has a chance to change all of that this weekend, when they host both teams in conference action. Depends on how things turn out, the Lady Broncs could wrap up the #1 seed for the east regional tournament. Meanwhile, both Casper school occupy the other 2 rankings in the top 5. #2 Natrona will bid farewell to the 85-year old Orange Dungeon on Thursday, when they host Riverton, while new #5 Kelly Walsh will play their last home game, before the regional tournament, on Thursday vs. Rock Springs. Both Casper teams will be on the road Saturday and trade opponents.

The 3A poll is unchanged from last week, which means the stage is set for 4 of the top 5 to face each other on Friday, including a #2 vs. #1 battle. Douglas visits Torrington for the top spot in the East. It may not matter too much though, because it could be considered a warm-up for the regional tournament...one that Torrington is hosting in 2 weeks. That one will matter more. The other big regional tournament preview game, has #3 Rawlins hosting #5 Worland on Friday. In the meantime, Powell continues to occupy the #4 spot.

Tongue River is the unanimous #1 in the 2A ranks, heading into the final weekend of the regular season. #5 Sundance will try to spoil senior day on Saturday, when they visit the Lady Eagles. Lovell moves up to #2, and Kemmerer slips to #3, after their surprise loss at Wyoming Indian last week. Southeast holds steady at #4, and is hoping to make the most of the second chance this Saturday.

That second chance is against the #1 team in 1A...Lingle-Ft. Laramie. The Lady Doggers squeaked out a 1 point win last month. Expect another close battle, to end the regular season. Elsewhere, Upton is at #2, with Little Snake River occupying spot #3, followed by Burlington and Cokeville.

Records Update: The WHSAA reversed its decision on the Thermopolis-Big Piney basketball situation, from February 8th, and it is no longer a forfeit. It is a cancelled game.
