The population sign reads "about 57." A couple people may come and go, but if you ask the locals, there's still about that many folks living in Atlantic City, Wyoming.

There may only be a few dozen people now, but Atlantic City was once in consideration to become Wyoming's capital city.

The area is famous for gold, and began to boom in the 1870's. Most residents in the area left after the short gold rush period, but from the 1960's to 1983, the area was still very well traveled with folks working at an iron ore mine operated by US Steel.

Today, there's still a few gold panners around, but Atlantic City is mainly a quiet town located in one of Wyoming's prettiest areas, South Pass.

The community is still rich with history and fascinating buildings.

Atlantic City turns 150-years-old this summer, making it one of Wyoming's oldest communities.

The community will celebrate it's birthday this July 5th and 6th. Tours of the areas history and gold mines will be available along with an ice cream social, bar room decathlon, gold panning demonstrations, duck races, kids games, and live music. All events are free and open to the public, and food will be available for purchase both days.
