Say What?

What up people?  It didn’t seem to me like there was a whole lot going on this past week.  It’s pretty slow when the first thing I am going to rant on is golf.  Don’t get me wrong, I love golf.  With that, I will lead off with Augusta finally allowed two  - count them, two -  women to gain membership to their formerly all-male club.  It’s about time, I mean really.  Sergio Garcia won his first major since the 2008 Players Tournament.  There is still hope for Tiger, I say!

Preseason football is well underway, and there really aren’t too many surprises.  We all now know that Ryan Tannehill will start for Miami and Tennessee is going with Jake Locker.  The latter may have been a little surprising just for the mere fact that many people thought they would go with Matt Hasselback for his experience.

Michael Vick, is hurt again.  This time, his ribs, but an MRI shows no damage.  That’s good.  I was really of the mind that the NFL having a regular preseason and no lockout would put the guys in better play shape, but the number of injuries I am noticing every day makes me a little worried.  Football is a physical sport, everyone knows that, but I wonder if the preseason is really worth it in the long run when you are dealing with injuries to key players and you don’t even have a win-loss record to show for it.  Let’s face it, we are all in it to win it.

I heard a very valid point earlier today that if preseason ticket holders pay the same amount of money for their tickets, then why should those fans be “jipped” out of a meaningful game?  Maybe we should just increase the number of games and leave preseason out of it.  I think that wouldn’t be a bad idea.

On that same note, I also heard today that DeSean Jackson admitted to not playing at 100% because he didn’t want to injure himself before signing a new contract.  Smart or selfish.

I read that no alcohol or drugs were found in Junior Seau’s body after the autopsy came back.  His brain is being donated for research.  Many players have come forward to voice their concern over how much of an adverse affect football has on the body, specifically the head.  Let’s just hope that the equipment worn can make our kids as safe as possible playing the great game of football.
