Casper PD Marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Victim’s Rights
April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, and the Casper Police Department is bringing awareness to the issue by supporting the National Start by Believing Campaign. Started in 2011, the Start By Believing Campaign is dedicated to improving criminal justice responses to sexual assault, according to their website.
"Most victims of sexual assault never report the crime to law enforcement, often because of the responses they receive from friends and family members. Our Start by Believing campaign is designed to change this. By preparing both professionals and loved ones to respond appropriately to sexual assault disclosures, we help to improve outcomes for victims – one reaction at a time. "
This is the second year the Casper Police Department will be supporting this campaign, according to a release. This year the Casper Police Department will be collaborating with our community partners, the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office and the Self Help Center to bring awareness to the Start by Believing Campaign.
CPD will also be marking Victim's Rights Week with a special ceremony at City Hall on April 10th at 10:00 a.m. A proclamation from the City of Casper recognizing Victim’s Rights Week will be read by Mayor Ray Pacheco, and Police Chief Keith McPheeters will be speaking about the Casper Police Department’s support of victims and the Start by Believing Campaign.
