BOSTON (AP) — Doc Rivers will be the next coach of the Los Angeles Clippers if the NBA approves the rare but not unprecedented trade of an active coach. A Boston Celtics official told The Associated Press last night that the deal would bring Boston a first-round draft pick in 2015 in compensation for Rivers.

Rivers has three years and $21 million left on his Boston contract. Rivers took over the Celtics in 2004 in the midst of the longest title drought in franchise history.

The Celtics won the NBA title in 2008, made it to the finals in 2010, but now face a rebuilding program.
