CODY, Wyo. (AP) — The Cody School Board is appealing a decision placing Cody High School track teams on probation.

The Wyoming High School Activities Association placed the track teams coached by Scott Shaffer on probation. The WHSAA board recently ruled Shaffer violated the sportsmanship code during an incident at a September cross-country meet in which there was contact between a Cody runner and a Douglas runner.

The Cody Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/siUJVB) that some witnesses say Shaffer chased the Douglas runner for a time, yelling and swearing.

Following the incident, Shaffer was removed from all of his coaching duties. But the school board later reversed part of the decision and reinstated Shaffer as track coach.

If Shaffer remains coach, the Cody track teams won't be able to compete in postseason meets.
