Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball and soccer will both open Mountain West Conference action this weekend, while cross country heads north for competition.

Cowgirl volleyball will host UNLV Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and New Mexico Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Uni-Wyo Sports Complex. Wyoming (5-7) is coming off wins in their last two matches and hoping to build on those.

Head coach Chad Callihan said all the Mountain West matches scare me.

“Vegas is very well-coached. I feel like they’re always ready to play. I believe they’re a little bit young, as well, this year... But I do think that they have some good talent. They only have to put it together for one night, so we’ve got to make sure we’re really ready and able to go.”

Callihan also added that at the start of conference everybody is excited and feels they have a chance. That’s why he mentions the Cowgirls must be ready.

Wyoming has won four straight and five of the last six home matches versus UNLV. The Rebels are 4-9 entering Thursday’s match. New Mexico comes into the weekend with an 8-4 record. They play at CSU before facing UW Saturday.

Cowgirls Soccer

The Cowgirls head on the road to begin league action. They will go south to Colorado Springs to face Colorado College Friday at 3 p.m. After that, UW faces Air Force Sunday at 12 p.m.

Wyoming (4-3-1) has won its last two matches and is above .500, record-wise, for the first time this season.

Wyoming Cross Country

The UW cross country teams will compete for just the second time on Saturday. They head north to Minneapolis, MN for the Roy Griak Invitational. The runners take to the course shortly after 11 a.m., Mountain Time.
