It was a tough road trip to Florida for the Wyoming Cowgirls, as they lost both basketball games in the UCF Thanksgiving Classic in Orlando.

Wyoming (4-2) suffered its first loss of the season last Saturday against Northern Iowa, 55-40. The Cowgirls were within three, at 36-33, early in the fourth quarter. Then the Panthers hit four 3-pointers in the next couple of minutes that made it 48-33.

Liv Roberts led the way with 10 points and nine rebounds. UW shot a season-low 33 percent from the field. They were 0-8 from 3-point range.

Head coach Joe Legerski in a university release gave credit to UNI.

“Northern Iowa knew they needed to take away our three point shooting, and they did. We got to the basket, but didn’t convert when we had the opportunities.”

Sunday, the Cowgirls lost to the IUPUI Jaguars, 65-59. Wyoming dug an early hole, as they trailed by as much as 18 points in the second quarter. UW rallied and tied it at 53 with over five minutes left on a three by Selale Kepenc. The Jaguars out-scored the Cowgirls 12-6 and pulled away for victory.

Natalie Baker scored a season-high 15 points, while Kepenc added a career-best 13. UW shot 46 percent.

Legerski said, “We tied it up at 53 with five minutes to go, and after that I thought we rushed a couple of shots.”

The Wyoming Cowgirls return to action Wednesday morning at Montana State. The game against the Bobcats is at 11 a.m.
