The women’s edition of the Border War is in Fort Collins tonight, as the Wyoming Cowgirls face the Colorado State Rams at 7 p.m.

It’s a match-up of the top two teams in the Mountain West standings. Colorado State (19-6, 11-2) leads the conference with the Wyoming (18-6, 10-3) right on their heels, just a game back.

Junior Liv Roberts, who leads the Cowgirls averaging 15.4 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game, understands it’s a big game for a few reasons.

“There our rival. We’re close together; just an hour apart; and then also, we’re one and two, and so that makes it even bigger this year. Last year was a big game, one you wanted to get up, but this it makes it even bigger because we are competing to be number one in the conference.”

The Rams have won six straight in the series and that included a 63-42 win over UW in Fort Collins last year. Wyoming’s last road win in the series was March 6, 2013, by a final of 65-to-51. Prior to that, the Cowgirls had won nine of 10.

Wyoming has lost their last three league road games. In all three, the Cowgirls shot less than 37 percent from the field. This game pits a UW team that is tops in the MW at 44 percent per game against a CSU team that is second at 42 percent shooting.

Cowgirls’ head coach Joe Legerski knows the Rams are tough, especially at home, where everyone feels more comfortable.

“They’re a top level team. They’re 12-1 at home. The challenges are immense. We have to find some offense to be able to keep us in the game.”

It will be the 97th meeting in the series. Both schools have 48 wins.
