An extreme surfer from Hawaii named Garrett McNamara just broke a world record by surfing a 90-foot wave off the coast of Portugal.

The previous record—77 feet—was set by Mike Parsons in 2008.

McNamara talked to news reporters about what it was like. He said a wave that big can easily kill you. Watch as McNamara sets a world record:
