Marta Gomez three-pointer with just under 10 seconds left led the Wyoming Cowgirls past the Nevada Wolfpack, 65-62, in Reno Wednesday night.

It’s the sixth straight win in conference play for the Cowgirls, and their third consecutive Mountain West road win.

In a release from the University of Wyoming, head coach Joe Legerski complemented Gomez.

“You look at Marta (Gomez) every day and what a delight to have her on the team. It never seems like anything ever phases her, never too emotional, never too talkative, she’s just Marta. She stepped up earlier in the game when we had a draw and kick out of the corner which was a big shot as well. Tonight, we ran a play for the last shot, ran it down, executed it very well and give her credit. As I always say, I can determine who is on the floor, the offense we run or defensively, but is up to players to make plays.”

Gomez finished with 11 points. Sophomore Selale Kepenc led the way with 12 points off the bench. She also tied a career-high with six rebounds.

Wyoming (13-5, 6-1) shot 44 percent for the game. They went 11-21, 52 percent, from deep and scored 30 points off the bench.

Legerski added in the release, “The biggest thing I look at in tonight’s game, that it was a team victory. Selale (Kepenc) came in off the bench, played well on both ends of the court. We are down the line-up with points from 12 to six and getting contributions from everyone. Eight players played and each one contributed.”

Nevada (11-8, 4-4) was led by Jade Redmon with 16 points. The Wolfpack shot 43 percent from the field. They also out-rebounded UW, 38-28.

It was a tight game throughout and featured 14 lead changes and was tied nine times. Nevada held a 34-32 lead at halftime.

A 10-0 run at the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth was key for Wyoming. Kepenc made a three to start and end the run. Gomez knocked down a big three for a 60-56 lead with 3:56 left. The Wolfpack tied it at 60 before Liv Roberts made a key lay-up with 1:41 left. After a Cowgirl turnover, Nevada’s Redmon tied it with a jumper with 33 seconds left.

Wyoming returns home Saturday, as the Cowgirls host the San Jose State Spartans. The game starts at 2 p.m.
