UNDATED (AP) — Indiana retains the top spot in the AP basketball poll, picking up 43 of 65 first-place votes.

Miami slips up one to No. 2 with 20 first-place votes and Gonzaga jumps from five to three with the other two first-place votes.

Michigan State leapfrogs four spots to No. 4 and Florida moves up two to No. 5.

Duke slips from second to sixth, with Michigan, Syracuse, Kansas and Louisville rounding out the top 10.

VCU is the only new team in the poll, returning at No. 24 after a three-week absence.

The only team to fall out of the rankings was Kentucky, which was No. 25 and dropped out after a pair of losses last week.

UNDATED (AP) — Kansas State moved to the top of the Big 12 standings while spoiling the return of former Wildcats coach Bob Huggins.

Will Spradling scored 19 points and Nino Williams came off the bench to add 13 as K-State downed West Virginia 71-61. Angel Rodriguez finished with 11 points and seven assists for the Wildcats, who took control with an 18-2 run in the opening minutes.

Huggins received a warm reception in his first trip back to Bramlage Coliseum, where he went 23-12 as coach of the Wildcats during the 2006-07 season.

The other top-25 game was in Pittsburgh, where Jerian Grant and Jack Cooley each had 13 points as 25th-ranked Notre Dame rallied for a 51-42 win over the No. 20 Panthers. The Irish won despite missing 18 of their first 19 shots and trailing 19-3 with six minutes left in the first half.

Eric Atkins added 10 points and seven assists for the Irish, who improved to 9-5 in the Big East and snapped a tie with the Panthers for fourth place in the conference.

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — California coach Mike Montgomery has been reprimanded by the Pac-12 for shoving one of his own players in the chest during a game.

Montgomery will not be suspended by the conference but has received an undisclosed punishment for the incident that occurred in Sunday's win over Southern California.

Montgomery yelled at star guard Allen Crabbe for nonchalant play and then shoved him in the chest with both hands.

Cal Athletic Director Sandy Barbour called Montgomery's actions unacceptable and he has apologized.

 

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Duke University says former Blue Devils star Phil Henderson has died at the age of 44.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski says Henderson's mother told him that her son died Sunday at his home in the Philippines, although no cause of death was given. Henderson was a senior captain and the leading scorer on the 1989-90 Duke team that lost to UNLV in the national championship game.
