LARAMIE -- The Cowgirl tennis team looks to make a quick trip to Flagstaff, Arizona to face both UTEP and Northern Arizona at the Tennis Center on the NAU campus.
They will kick off the weekend against UTEP on Saturday at 10 a.m. and then do it all over again against Northern Arizona on Sunday at 10, as well.
The Cowgirls are coming off a recent split during a short homestand after facing UNC Greensboro and winning 6-1 on February 2nd and then falling to Colorado 4-1 on February 4th.
Wyoming won five of their six singles matchups against UNC Greensboro, starting with Noesjka Brink winning in two sets in the No. 1 spot, 6-2 and 6-3. Nikol Dobrilova won in the second position after losing just one game and taking the match with set scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Lucia Malinak rallied back after losing the first set 5-7 and took the next two by scores of 7-5 and 6-1. Serina Abriola and Adel Ismagulova won their respective matchups as well. Abriola won 6-3 and 6-2 in the No. 5 position and Ismagulova won in the sixth spot 7-5, 2-6, and 1-0 (12-10) in the super set.
The Cowgirls also picked up the doubles point, after wins from Abriola and Ismagulova and Malinak and Jeselle Ante, both with scores of 6-1.
The Cowgirls did not fare as well on February 4th against Colorado as the only point they managed to muster was the doubles point with wins coming from Sophie Zehender and Violetta Borodina as well as Brink and Dobrilova. Both winning 6-3.
Zehender and Borodina will look to continue their dominance in doubles after improving to 14-1 overall after their win over CU. The tandem is 5-0 in dual matches this spring.
