Casper’s Fireworks Ban Aims To Keep Summer Safe For Everyone
With the wild storms and what seems to be consistent rain, it's hard to think that there could be a risk of fires around Casper, but there is. High winds, low humidity, and warm summer temperatures are already major concerns; then add in fireworks, and you have an even larger opportunity for fire.
If you're in Casper, or most areas of Natrona County, you are not allowed to have any aerial or ground fireworks. If you bought them outside of Casper, they're illegal. No ifs, ands, or buts; they're illegal. If you are busted with fireworks, you could face a fine of up to $750, up to 60 days in jail, or both.
I know you're trying to argue with a rebuttal of "But, but, but what if there's no fire ban in place?"
According to the Casper Police Department, that doesn't matter.
Temporary open-burning restrictions may change as conditions change. Regardless of whether a temporary restriction is in effect, the longstanding fireworks prohibitions throughout the Casper area remain in place. The absence of a temporary burn restriction should not be interpreted to mean that fire danger is low.
Another argument I've seen is "But, but, but how can the city shoot off huge fireworks and I can't?"
Organized fireworks shows are being monitored by professional firefighters. Crews are on scene, and organizers are in constant communication with those fire professionals.
Also, remember how fireworks can affect babies, animals, and vets.
- Animals have sensitive hearing, and the loud noises from fireworks can startle them and cause them to run away, which could, in turn, lead to injury.
- For young kids, loud booms can startle them, causing sensory overload and even damaging their hearing.
- The fireworks can be triggering and cause anxiety and flashbacks for veterans.
