Skip Ewing Brought Nashville Talent To Dubois For A Horns For Heroes Fundraiser
I've been lucky enough in my career to meet some great people in the music industry, and even luckier to call some of them close friends. When I met Skip Ewing, he and his wife Linda became really close friends, and we try to support each other as much as possible. We've talked on the radio many times about the new music he's releasing, and right now, he's getting ready to release his new album called Dragonfly on September 18, along with songs from the album.
Skip's a busy singer and songwriter who lives in Dubois but is on the road for much of the year, touring around the country singing and playing his songs. As weird as it may sound, most of the concerts that he's played around Wyoming have mostly been Christmas shows and not many outside of that. That's because he's touring or in Nashville writing or recording new music, and as much as he'd love to play in Wyoming, being able to play a show at home is a rarity.
This past week, he had that rare week off and was able to book a fundraising show for Horns for Heroes a veterans organization that helps train veterans and find them employment, at Bone Daddy's Outlaw Saloon in Dubois and invited me to be a small part of the show.
I did the My Country morning show from the Lake House Studio for a couple of days as we prepared for the show. It's a lot of work, but well worth it in the end. Skip joined me on the show to chat about the new album, the show, and all things Wyoming. At the same time, he was preparing for the Dubois show.
If you've never seen a Skip Ewing show, trust me that he'll knock your socks off. Not only is he a fantastic singer and guitar player, but he's an incredible storyteller and songwriter who's written hundreds of songs that have been recorded by other artists as well as songs he's written and recorded himself. During the show, he gives you a little bit of both and keeps the crowd entertained the entire time.
Skip has written songs that were recorded by Randy Travis, Collin Raye, Kenny Chesney, Diamond Rio, Clint Black, Bryan White, Doug Stone, and Reba, to name a few, and has a fantastic story for everyone of those songs. It's incredible how great of a showman that he is.
For this particular show, Skip was accompanied by Nashville-based touring and session drummer Noel Bisesti and touring fiddle player Lillie Mae, who was recently on tour with Post Malone. They are both top-notch and classy players, who are a couple of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Seeing all three of them work on getting the show together was great.
The people of Dubois got a show of high quality show from fantastic musicians. The show went well enough that there are already plans in the works for future events like this.
