Like many of you, I take the weather forecast with a grain of salt. We all know that the weather in Wyoming can change on a dime, but if you're not a fan of below-freezing weather, the Casper area is right up your alley. At this point, the next 10 days are looking more like a springtime forecast than the beginning of winter.

If this pattern holds, no one knows what the weather will be like at the new year. What I do know, though, is that whether there's snow and cold temps or sun and warm temps, Wyoming's "First Day Hikes" with Wyoming State Organizations will happen statewide.

I've been thinking about my 2026 goals, and I think this may be just the thing I need to get involved with to start the new year out on the right foot. Beginning the year with a hike may also be what you need to get motivated to explore more in 2026.

On January 1, 2026, 17 sites are offering free, guided hikes across Wyoming. If you participate, you'll have an opportunity to win a 2026 Annual Day-Use Pass and be entered into the statewide grand prize.
