After the weather messed up last week’s indoor track debut, teams are finally getting an opportunity to compete this week. There are meets on two days this weekend, both in and out of state. Cheyenne and Gillette have events in Wyoming, while some schools are heading to Provo, UT. This is the start of a shorter seven-week indoor track season since last week was scratched. It leads up to the state championships on March 1 and 2, 2024, in Gillette.

Unbeknownst to us, the Rust Buster Invitational was rescheduled and done on Monday of this week. You can find the results below.

WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL INDOOR TRACK SCHEDULE: JAN. 15-20, 2024

This is the schedule for Week 2 of Indoor track. Schedules are subject to change.

Monday, Jan. 15:

Rust Buster Invitational in Gillette (hosted by Sheridan) = from the Campbell County Recreation Center Fieldhouse

Teams who attended: Campbell County, Sheridan, Thunder Basin.

Girls Team Scores = Thunder Basin 179.50, Sheridan 158, Campbell County 150.50.

Boys Team Scores = Sheridan 248.50, Thunder Basin 143, Campbell County 102.50.

 

Friday, Jan. 19:

BYU Indoor Invitational in Provo, UT: Field Events & Track Events start at 2 p.m.

Teams Attending: Evanston, Green River, Mountain View, Pinedale, Rock Springs, Star Valley

Girls' highlightsValerie Jirak of Star Valley was 2nd in the long jump by 1/2 inch at 18-3. Jirak was 3rd in the high jump at 5-4. Pinedale's Madison Antonino was 3rd in the 2-mile run at 11:46.61. Lillian Allison of Green River took 3rd in the shot put at 36-6.75.

Boys' highlights: Star Valley's Habtamu Wetzel won the 2-mile race at 9:41.11. Teammate Jase Burton placed 6th.

 

Saturday, Jan. 20:

Campbell County Invite from the Campbell County Recreation Center Fieldhouse: Field Events start at 9 a.m.; Track Events start at 10 a.m. & are on a rolling schedule

Teams Attending: Big Horn, Buffalo, Campbell County, Cheyenne East, Cody, Douglas, Glenrock, Kelly Walsh, Lander, Laramie, Lovell, Natrona County, Powell, Riverton, Rock Springs, Sheridan, Thunder Basin, Tongue River, Torrington, Western Heritage Lutheran Academy, Worland.

Lainey Berryhill from Laramie won the 400 and 1600 meters. Cody won 2 girls' relays.

Thunder Basin's Bradley Ekstrom won the 200 & 400 meters. Laramie's Dominic Eberle won the 800 & 1600 meters. Sheridan won 2 boys' relays. Natrona's Kaiden Lee won the high jump and triple jump.

No team scores were kept.

 

Kevin Salverson Invite in Cheyenne at the Central HS Fieldhouse: Field Events start at 10 a.m. (long jump at 8:30 a.m. for local athletes) & Track Events at 11 a.m. (800 meters starts at 10 a.m.) – rolling schedule

Teams Attending: Burns/Pine Bluffs, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne South, Laramie, Rawlins, Torrington.

Girls Team Scores = Central 155.50, Laramie 136, Rawlins 64, East & Burns/Pine Bluffs 27 each, South 18.50.

Laramie's Chloe Wallhead won the 55-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles, and triple jump. 

Boys Team Scores = Laramie 134, Central 130, Rawlins 46, East & Burns/Pine Bluffs 44 each, South 21.

Laramie's Fisher Frude won the pole vault and long jump. 

 

BYU Indoor Invitational in Provo, UT: Field Events & Track Events start at 8 a.m.

Teams Attending: Evanston, Green River, Mountain View, Pinedale, Rock Springs, Star Valley.

Valerie Jirak from Star Valley was 2nd in the 200-meter dash and 3rd in the 60-meter dash. Mountain View's Jaylee Antonino took 5th in the 60-meter hurdles. Evanston's Talia Conrad was 4th in the 400 meters.

Habtamu Wetzel from Star Valley won the 1-mile race at 4:24.50. Evanston's Gabe Hutchison was 2nd in the 400 meters and 5th in the 200 meters. Cheyenne Central's Race Morrell placed 5th in the 800 meters.
