It’s time for the 2024 high school outdoor track and field season to start across Wyoming. That means impacts from the spring weather, right? Here are the first meets of the season. Not every school will be competing over the opening weekend. A few schools will be trying to compete in out-of-state competitions.

WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD WEEK 1 SCHEDULE

FRIDAY, MARCH 15:

BISON-BRONCS-BOLTS TRIANGULAR at Sheridan HS – Buffalo, Campbell County, Sheridan, Thunder Basin; Spearfish, SD

Thunder Basin's Grace Miller won the 100 & 200 meters. That helped the Bolts win a tight race for the girls' team title. Sheridan's Landrum Wiley won the 800 meters, 1600 meters, & pole vault. Aiden O'Leary swept the 2 hurdle races. The Broncs won 9 events and rolled to the team crown.

Girls Team Scores = Thunder Basin 181, Sheridan 176, Campbell County 114.50, Buffalo 78.50, Spearfish 8.

Boys Team Scores = Sheridan 283, Thunder Basin 123, Campbell County 97, Buffalo 39.

Out-of-State events:

LONE PEAK EARLY BIRD INVITATIONAL at Mountain View HS in Orem, UT – Star Valley

After Day 1, Star Valley is 13th in the girls' division and 15th in the boys' division.

RIFLE HS INVITATIONAL at Rifle HS in Rifle, CO – Little Snake River

LSR was 17th (girls) and 18th (boys) in the team standings. Tyler Harrison was 5th & 6th in the 2 hurdle races for the LSR girls. Regina Herrera took 4th in the shot put.

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 16:

GLEN LEGLER EARLY BIRD at Natrona County HS in Casper – Dubois, Glenrock, Green River, Kelly Walsh, Lander, Midwest, Natrona County, Rawlins, Riverton, Rock Springs, Wheatland, Worland, Wright.

Wheatland's Desirae Iacovetto won the 100-meter dash and high jump. The only other two-event winner was Teagan Becker from Kelly Walsh, who swept the throwing events.

There were no two-event winners in the boys' division. The Mustangs won 7 events to grab the team crown.

Girls Team Scores = Worland 140.50, Natrona County 111, Lander 90.50, Kelly Walsh 78, Rawlins 45, Rock Springs 41, Wheatland 34, Green River 32, Riverton 31, Wright 29, Dubois 5, Glenrock 2, Midwest 1.

Boys Team Scores = Natrona County 183.50, Kelly Walsh 91.16, Rock Springs & Riverton 77, Worland 45, Rawlins 43.33, Wheatland 38, Dubois 31, Wright 25, Lander 21, Midwest 17, Glenrock 10, Green River 6.

WIND RIVER ICEBREAKER at Wind River HS in Pavillion – Burlington, Encampment, Greybull, Jackson, Kemmerer, Pinedale, Riverside, Shoshoni, St. Stephens, Thermopolis, Western Heritage Lutheran Academy, Wind River.

Davdine King of Thermopolis won the 100-meter dash and long jump. Jackson's Rebecca Griebel won the 200-meter dash and triple jump. Pinedale's Katy Dexter swept the 2 throwing events.

Cole Rogers of Kemmerer swept the 2 hurdle races in the boys' division.

Girls Team Scores = Jackson 123.50, Kemmerer 106, Pinedale 77.50, Wind River 74, Thermopolis 61.50, Burlington 61, Riverside 51.50, Encampment 38, Shoshoni 16, St. Stephens 11, Greybull 2.

Boys Team Scores = Burlington 143, Thermopolis 111, Kemmerer 96, Jackson 87, Riverside 43, Encampment 41, Pinedale 35, Shoshoni 23, St. Stephens 22, Wind River 10, Western Heritage Lutheran Academy 8, Greybull 6.

Out-of-State events:

GOLDEN EAGLE INVITATIONAL at Frederick HS in Frederick, CO – Cheyenne South – postponed to 3-19-24.

LONE PEAK EARLY BIRD INVITATIONAL at Mountain View HS in Orem, UT – Star Valley

Star Valley girls finished 6th. Jirak was 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the 100 hurdles. Abigail Carrillo-Zarate was 2nd in the shot put. The boys took 12th. Khale Clinger won the high jump at 6-3. Jase Burton and Habtamu Wetzel were 4th and 5th in the 3200 meters.

MURRAY KULA INVITATIONAL at Windsor HS in Windsor, CO – Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East – postponed to 3-18-24.

TONY GLOVER MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL at Corner Canyon HS in Corner Canyon, UT – Big Piney, Evanston

Evanston took 6th in the girls' division and 8th in the boys' division. Kai Barker won the 110 hurdles at 15.74 seconds and was 2nd in the high jump at 6-6. Cassie Barker was 2nd in the high jump and Alyssa Brown was 3rd in the shot put for the girls.

Big Piney was 12th in the boys' division and 14th in the girls' division.
