Recently, Wyoming PBS announced that it is considering a name change. They want to identify and emphasize that they are Wyoming's storytellers.

This is where the story goes off the rails a bit.

They have not yet chosen a new name. They want to hire a consulting firm to help. The lowest bid for a consultant was a little over $60,000. The highest bid was $300,000. They chose a company in the middle, which offered its services for about $135,000.

Next, they want to go around the state asking what people think.

After all that time and money, the boss at Wyo PBS says that he is not even sure if he will use the new name. SO WHY ARE YOU SPENDING THE MONEY?

I'm going to help Wyoming PBS for FREE! - Here we go.

DO NOT ask a lot of people. Talk to just a couple. The more people involved, the more muddied and confusing the process will become. It will be impossible to make a good decision.

Watch the video below. This guy knows how to pick company names. It's realistic and funny at the same time.

You don't need to hire anyone for any amount of money. I've been involved in naming companies and projects before, and it is actually easy. The boss just needs to pull two of his most creative guys into his office on a Friday and ask them to come up with their best ideas. They will meet on Monday morning to pick a new name.

DONE!

Some years back, I was literally in a garage as a group of us were working on starting a new media company. We were trying to come up with a name. I excused myself and went to use the toilet. While standing over the toilet, I saw that the company that made it was called American Standard. I went rushing back to the group, all excited about our new name.

"American Standard Media," I said. "We will set the standard in new media and show everyone else how this is done."

Everyone liked it, and that became the name

So save your money, Wyoming PBS. Consultants are a waste of it.

Some of these horrible taxidermy jobs are supposed to be bad.

Some were supposed to be good but obviously did not turn out that way.
