Welcome to October 2026. This year, the opening of October will be cool and dry. A perfect time to see fall colors. So let's plan your road trip.

Fall colors in Wyoming are in full swing right now. But where are the best places to go?

Well, there's an interactive map for that, of course. Just visit this link and explore; then you can plan your road trip from there. The map shows where the best concentration of changing trees is and what stage they are in.

You can try this map at this link, which does the same thing but in a different format. There are other websites, maps, and apps. Personally, I like the ones that provide the best-looking maps.

The best fall color viewing in Wyoming is Grand Teton National Park and Aspen Alley in the Sierra Madre Mountains. You'll find aspen groves and stunning mountain backdrops. But those are the usual places.

But don't just focus there.

Any Wyoming mountain range has colors. So do rivers where trees usually concentrate. Don't forget to drive into some of our best towns, the ones that have planted lots of trees, and explore the nicer neighborhoods.

Towns like Buffalo, Wyoming, and Sheridan are also some of the best to drive into and around to see those colors. They also offer some great hiking trails if you want to walk into it.

Planning a road trip for this first week or even weekend of October is a great idea. The weather will be perfect for slow driving with the windows down or hiking.
