As we enter the first weekend of October, a cool front is working its way down, bringing some Pacific moisture with it.

Cool air in the low country will be cold air in the high country.

This is the opening of the fall hunting season in Wyoming. Some of those hunters like to camp.

Whatever you're doing in Wyoming's higher elevation this weekend, beware of overnight low temperatures and the first real good high country snow of this season.

Here is what local meteorologists are saying:

Expect mountain snow in Wyoming this weekend (October 4–5, 2025), with the highest chances and accumulations in the Teton Range and the Bighorn Mountains.

A cold front will sweep across the state, dropping temperatures and lowering snow levels to around 7,500–8,000 feet by Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Teton Range

Saturday, October 4: Light rain is forecast during the day, with a 70% chance of rain. The high temperature will be around 42°F. By Saturday night, the forecast shifts to rain and snow, with a 50% chance of precipitation.

Sunday, October 5: Light snow is expected during the day with a 45% chance of snow. The high will be around 40°F. The chance of snow showers continues into Sunday night.

Mountain Passes: Light slushy accumulations are possible on Teton Pass early Sunday morning, though they are expected to melt as the day progresses.

Bighorn Mountains

Saturday, October 4: Rain and snow are likely. A Winter Weather Advisory may be in effect, with 4 to 10 inches of snow possible above 8,000 feet. Hunters and travelers should prepare for cold and wet conditions.

Sunday, October 5: Snow showers are expected to continue.

Roads and Passes: Brisk northwest winds may cause blowing snow and limited visibility on mountain passes.

Snowy Range (Centennial area)

Saturday, October 4: Expect a 70% chance of rain during the day, with a high near 54°F. A chance of snow showers is forecast for Saturday night, with cold temperatures and lows in the upper 20s.

Sunday, October 5: A chance of rain and snow showers will continue, with highs in the upper 40s.

Statewide travel impacts

Strong Winds: Gusty winds are expected across the state as the cold front moves in. Some areas in southeastern Wyoming may experience wind gusts over 65 mph.

Road Conditions: Mountain passes will likely become snow-covered and slick with limited visibility in blowing snow.

For the most current road conditions, check the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) website at www.wyoroad.info or call 5-1-1.
