A 33-year-old Cheyenne man is behind bars after allegedly hitting a woman in the face with an ice scraper and backing over another woman with his car.

Police spokeswoman Alex Farkas says it all started around 3 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, after officers were called to a pedestrian hit-and-run with injuries at the Maverik on Gardenia Drive.

"According to statements, the two victims arrived at the location in a truck to meet the suspect, later identified as Cody Fertig," Farkas said Monday in a news release.

Farkas says one of the women got out of the truck carrying an ice scraper and began to argue with Fertig.

"As the argument escalated, he displayed a firearm and pointed it at her," said Farkas. "He then took the ice scraper and pushed her to the ground."

"Fertig hit their truck with the scraper several times – one of the strikes contacted the other female’s face through the driver’s side window," she added.

Fertig then reportedly returned to the first victim, pushed her to the ground again, and punched her repeatedly before walking back to his car.

"As Fertig was leaving the location, he put his car into reverse, and the front passenger wheel drove over the female’s body and head," said Farkas. "He then fled from the scene."

Farkas says the woman suffered serious injuries and was taken by a family member to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where she remained hospitalized as of 1:52 p.m. Monday.

She says officers were able to locate Fertig outside of his home and chase him on foot to the Albertsons on East Pershing Boulevard, where he was arrested without incident.

"Fertig was booked into the Laramie County Jail on charges of aggravated assault threatening with a weapon, aggravated assault with injury, assault – battery, and interference with a peace officer," said Farkas.

Fertig is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court tomorrow, Dec. 12, at 9:45 a.m.
