According to a booking sheet, 31-year-old Colorado Springs, Colorado resident Austin L. Townsley was arrested at 10 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on five misdemeanor charges -- lane use, speeding, improper display of tabs, flee or attempt to elude police, and reckless driving.
The Pursuit
The pursuit reportedly began around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, after the Wyoming Highway Patrol received a traffic complaint about Townsley driving recklessly and a trooper tried to stop him for having no visible registration around milepost 356 on westbound Interstate 80, just west of Cheyenne.
The Patrol says Townsley failed to stop and instead eluded the trooper.
During the pursuit, Townsley reportedly failed to maintain his lane, reached speeds of 110 mph, drove westbound in the eastbound lanes, and intentionally drove through a right-of-way fence into a field.
The Patrol says Townsley was able to navigate the rough terrain before law enforcement got to the location.
UPDATE:
Townsley made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Friday afternoon, June 21, and pleaded guilty.
He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to be back in court for sentencing on July 15 at 9:30 a.m.
