Man Arrested After Shoplifting, Fleeing Police in Evansville

Two Casper police officers were shopping at Murdoch's in Evansville when someone shoplifted from the same store.

An arrest affidavit alleges the officers were attempting to purchase their products when they were alerted that Bo McKinney, 28, was fleeing the store.

The officers went outside and were directed toward a Toyota Rav 4 leaving the store. The officers attempted to follow the vehicle in an unmarked Casper police vehicle. An officer notified dispatch and requested Evansville officers to respond and stop the vehicle when it pulled into the parking lot of the Baymont hotel.

Officers contacted the driver, who was identified as McKinney. They instructed McKinney to turn off the vehicle and remove the keys from the ignition. McKinney was fidgety and appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine.

McKinney put his vehicle in reverse and backed into the police vehicle. He put the vehicle in drive and attempted to pull forward. The officer tried to remove McKinney from the vehicle but he was able to escape and flee on foot.

Casper and Evansville officers were able to catch McKinney a short time later at a Loaf and Jug gas station just down the street.

Officers found several boxes of ammunition stolen from the Murdoch's inside McKinney's vehicle. They also found several syringes.

McKinney was taken to the Casper Police Department and told a police detective that he shoplifted several packages of ammunition. He also admitted to using methamphetamine within the past day.

Officers gave McKinney a field sobriety test and determined that he was too impaired to drive a car.

The arrest affidavit indicates that McKinney was arrested for interference with a police officer, driving under the influence and driving under suspension. He is charged with shoplifting in Evansville Municipal Court.
