The National Weather Service is warning of dangerous wind chills in parts of the state through Thursday morning, with the most severe impacts expected in northern Wyoming.

In northern Campbell County, northeastern Crook County and western Crook County, wind chill values could fall as low as 40 degrees below zero, according to a wind chill advisory posted overnight. The advisory covers Buffalo, Gillette, Moorcroft and Hulett, in addition to parts of South Dakota and Montana.

A separate wind chill warning posted by the NWS office in Riverton calls for Buffalo, Kaycee, Basin, Greybull, Lovell, Powell, Clark, Cody and Meeteetse to see wind chills between 15 below zero and 35 below zero until 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Those wind chills, according to the warning, could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 to 15 minutes. Hypothermia and death are also possible if precautions are not taken, the NWS says.

A wind chill watch will be in effect from 9 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday for Albany, Laramie, Platte and Goshen Counties, as well as the entire Nebraska Panhandle.

Elsewhere, winter weather warnings and advisories have been issued for southern, central and west-central Wyoming, including a winter storm warning for much of Carbon County as well as southwestern Albany County.
