A South Carolina woman died in a head-on collision near Rock Springs Thursday morning.

Twenty-two-year-old Jordyn T. Winters, of Warrenville, South Carolina, was not wearing her seat belt and died at the scene of the crash after the 2006 Nissan Altima was involved in a head-on collision with a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, the Wyoming Highway Patrol said Friday.

The crash happened at roughly 7:47 a.m. when the Nissan, traveling in the eastbound lane of the I-80 service road west of Rock Springs, crossed into the westbound lane and collided with the Chevy.

The Nissan's driver, Matthew W. Smith, was taken to Sweetwater Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs. It is unclear if he was wearing his seat belt. Fatigue on Smith's part is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.

A juvenile passenger in the Nissan who was in a car seat was also taken to Sweetwater Memorial Hospital.

The driver and a passenger in the Chevrolet were both wearing their seat belts and were taken to the hospital.

Thursday's crash marks the 99th highway fatality in Wyoming this year.
