Pioneer League Baseball: Orem-3 Casper-2

The Casper Ghosts dropped a 3-2 decision to the Orem Owlz Monday as the last week of the regular season begins. Both teams managed just six hits.

Casper scored the first two runs of the game, Orem scored the last three. Trevor Story drove in both of the Ghosts runs, as the Ghosts drop to 15-20 in the second half of the season. The two teams will wrap up their series tonight at 7:05pm on AM 1400 ESPN.

The Colorado Rockies lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-7. Geoff Blum had three hits, including a home run for the D-backs. Arizona have won 12 of their last 13 and lead the NL West Division by seven games. The Rockies have lost 11 of their last 12 games did get two homes runs from former Casper player Dexter Fowler.

The Wyoming Cowboys will host Texas State this Saturday after coming from behind to defeat Weber State Saturday night 35-32. A game that the Pokes could of easily lost, if it wasn't for some last minute heroics. Quarterback Brett Smith had two big completions in the final drive for the Cowboys. A fourth down and 11 conversion to Chris McNeil and a nine yard TD toss to Robert Herron to give the Cowboys the three point lead. Weber State missed a 52-yard field goal as time expired. Smith completed 27 of 41 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns.

This Week's Prep Game of the Week on AM 1400 ESPN has Kelly  Walsh at Laramie Friday night. The Trojans will be looking for their first win after losing to Cheyenne East in the first week and Evanston this past Friday 27-14. The Plainsmen lost to East Friday night 26-6 and to Rock Springs in overtime in the opener. Kickoff is at 7:00pm with the pregame show at 6:45.

High school volleyball tonight as Kelly Walsh will entertain cross-town rival Natrona. The match gets underway at 7:00pm.
