Replacement Refs Ruining America’s Game [OPINION]
Say What?
What up people? Okay is it just me or is every other pro football fan really tired of watching football being officiated by people clearly outside their realm.
I must say, that in all of my years of watching and listening to Monday Night Football, never have I heard most of the discussion revolving around the missed calls, too many calls, just no respect on the field in general. I’m talking about the replacement officials.
I just watched yet another example of the “replacement refs” just doing their job. Wow. Not only does it take forever because almost every play seems to be too fast for the refs to pick up on what should be called, if anything; compared to, oh, lets spot the ball 20 some odd yards to the other teams’ advantage, and then realize, after replay that, well, too late now…Good God.
Oh, and let’s not forget that wonderful rule of watching every scoring play on instant replay and then have to sit back and watch as penalty after penalty is called and no red flags can be thrown on penalties.
In the words of Chris Carter, “C’mon Man”. Me, and so many people are just ready to scream at any given moment, and unfortunately it’s not because one of our favorite players just made a great play, it’s because the ref can’t make a call right or spot the ball at the correct yardage.
I did some searching on where exactly these refs came from and how the NFL hired them at all. Let me tell ya, I’m not paid to do major research, but the only reference I could find was in regard to two refs who have been fired. It was only because they were fired, that somebody looked into their recent history.
Turns out, one of them was a schoolteacher who had written letters to coworkers as a means to be fired from the school he was teaching, because he didn’t want to be there.
The other guy was a ref in a major big ten game back in 2010 that had lasting damage and the ref that who was fired from a collegiate level was hired to be a replacement ref for the National Football League.
How can they have respect?!?!? After all, we as Americans, are basically a blue-collar culture and football is a great American sport, built around tradition and respect. Those replacement refs are outright scabs. Yeah, they have a job to do, but they are not the pros. Why are millions of dollars spent on players to play the game? Can we not expect the same for the officiating?
I have read on blogs and articles on how the fans need to boycott watching pro football. I tell ya, after this week, it may just be not only the fans, but the players, owners and anyone who gives a rats A*** that boycott the NFL.
But can we? Let’s face it, can we ask ourselves, the true football fan, can I not watch…especially if it’s on? That means phones, too…
Roger Goodell, yeah, he definitely has hand, in the words of George Costanza, Seinfeld era…
Disgrace to the game seems to be the general consensus from anyone who plays the game to those that love the game…Bottom line.
That’s just my opinion, keep it real!
