UNDATED (AP) — Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina (YAH'-dee-her moh-LEE'-nah) was handed a one-game suspension from Major League Baseball before Monday's game against Arizona. The Diamondbacks probably wish he hadn't appealed.

Molina hit a solo homer and an RBI single as the Cardinals whipped the Diamondbacks 7-1. He also was behind the plate for Lance Lynn, who's 8-1 with a 2.76 ERA after allowing a run and five hits while striking out six in seven innings.

Molina was punished for making contact with umpire Mike Everitt during Sunday's loss to San Francisco. Molina appealed the suspension, allowing him to play.

Carlos Beltran went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBIs as the Cardinals won a battle of National League division leaders.

Dominic Brown has stormed into the month of June in the same manner he roughed up opposing pitchers in May.

Brown belted his National League-leading 17th homer while going 3-for-4 with two RBIs in Philadelphia's 7-2 win over Miami. He's homered eight times in his last eight games, and 14 since May 1. Brown already has two homers and six RBIs this month after going deep 12 times while driving in 25 runs in May.

Delmon Young and Erik Kratz also homered to back Kyle Kendrick, who went the distance on a six-hitter and improved to 12-2 lifetime against the Marlins.

Also in the majors, the Reds have their third shutout in four games after Bronson Arroyo limited Colorado to four singles over eight innings of a 3-0 win at Cincinnati. Jay Bruce was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored.

Atlanta overpowered Pittsburgh 7-2 as Brian McCann, Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman each hit a two-run homer. Kris Medlen allowed just an unearned run over seven innings for his first win since April 9.

Solo homers by Scott Van Slyke and Adrian Gonzalez was all the support Stephen Fife needed for his first big league win as the Los Angeles Dodgers downed San Diego 2-1. Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig went 2-for-4 in his major league debut to back Fife, who limited the Padres to a run and five hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Mark Teixeira (the-SHEHR'-uh) launched a grand slam and Brett Gardner doubled home the tiebreaking run in the sixth inning as the New York Yankees beat Cleveland 7-4. Yankees starter Andy Pettitte had control issues in his first start since coming off the disabled list, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks before leaving with two out in the fifth inning.

Oakland is a season-high 11 games over .500 after Coco Crisp hit a leadoff homer and reached base five times in the Athletics' 10-2 pounding of the Brewers in Milwaukee. Tommy Milone (mih-LOHN') contributed on the mound and at the plate, tossing seven strong innings and going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Erik Bedard allowed a run and five hits in seven innings as Houston beat the Los Angeles Angels 2-1. Brandon Barnes put the Astros ahead with a sacrifice in the sixth, one inning after Chris Carter homered to knot the score.

Raul Ibanez (ih-BAHN'-yehz) socked a two-run homer and Joe Saunders worked in the seventh inning of Seattle's 4-2 triumph against the Chicago White Sox. Saunders lowered his ERA to 5.20 by holding the White Sox to a run and five hits over 6 1/3 innings.

UNDATED (AP) — Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter threw to live batters on Monday for the first time in his comeback attempt from a career-threatening nerve issue in his throwing shoulder. Cards manager Mike Matheny called it another good step, saying Carpenter threw the ball well and had command of his secondary pitches. Carpenter said the next move depends on how his body responds to the workout.

Also in the majors, Indians shortstop Asdrubal (as-DROO'-bul) Cabrera had to be helped off the field at Yankee Stadium on Monday after straining his right quadriceps while running out a grounder. Cabrera was unable to put weight on his right foot as he approached the Cleveland dugout.

Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood exited Colorado's game at Cincinnati in the bottom of the fifth because of a sore triceps. Chatwood gave up one run and four hits in four innings.

The Chicago White Sox have activated infielder Gordon Beckham from the 15-day disabled list and designated infielder Tyler Greene for assignment.

The Braves have shipped third baseman Juan Francisco to the Brewers for minor league lefty Tom Keeling.

A jury has convicted former major league outfielder Milton Bradley of abusing his estranged wife and is scheduled to be sentenced July 2.

And the Houston Astros will wear special patches to honor the four firefighters who were killed battling a motel and restaurant fire last week.
