UNDATED (AP) — Yasiel Puig (yah-SEEL' pweeg) continues to demonstrate awesome power in the short time he's been in the majors.

Puig launched an opposite-field grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 5-0 shutout of the Braves. The blast comes two days after he hit a two-run homer and a three-run shot in his second major league game.

Zack Greinke struck out seven while allowing four hits over seven shutout innings as the Dodgers won for the third time in four games since Puig was promoted from the minors on Monday.

The Braves ended a five-game winning streak.

The Boston Red Sox spotted the Texas Rangers a 3-0 lead before winning the rubber game in the matchup of division leaders.

David Ortiz launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Red Sox a 6-3 win over the Rangers. Jacoby Ellsbury went 4-for-5 and scored twice in his first action since missing five straight games with a sore groin. Jonny Gomes (gohmz) also had four hits for the Red Sox, who rallied after homers by Jeff Baker and Adrian Beltre put Texas ahead 3-0 by the third inning.

St. Louis also beat a fellow division leader as Shelby Miller hit his first career homer and allowed two runs over six innings of the Cardinals' 12-8 victory against Arizona.

Matt Adams and Daniel Descalso homered in an eight-run fourth off Ian Kennedy. Matt Holliday and Matt Carpenter also went deep for the Cardinals, who tagged Kennedy for 10 runs and 13 hits in four innings.

Also in the majors, Robinson Cano (kuh-NOH') and Mark Teixeira (teh-SHEHR'-uh) hit back-to-back homers during a six-run third that sent the Yankees to a 6-1 win at Seattle. Cano hit a three-run blast to support Phil Hughes, who held the Mariners to an unearned run and three hits in seven innings.

Max Scherzer is 8-0 after allowing a run and four hits while fanning nine over seven innings of Detroit's 5-2 win over Tampa Bay. Victor Martinez homered and had three RBIs, and Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a run-scoring single to raise his average to a major league-leading .373.

J.J. Hardy had a season-high four hits and Miguel Gonzalez worked six strong innings as Baltimore beat the Astros 3-1 in Houston. The Orioles' bullpen delivered three shutout innings of one-hit relief to secure the team's third straight series win.

Delmon Young homered and the Phillies moved above .500 for the first time by picking up their fifth straight win, 5-1 at Milwaukee. Tyler Cloyd limited the Brewers to four hits over 6 2/3 shutout innings.

Adam Rosales hit Oakland's fourth solo homer of the night, a two-out blast in the 10th inning to lift the A's past the White Sox 5-4 in Chicago. Yoenis Cespedes (yoh-EH'-nehs SEHS'-peh-dehs) hit two home runs for the second time in three days to help the Athletics improve to 17-3 in their last 20 games.

Pinch-hitter Yasmani Grandal poked an RBI grounder to score the tiebreaking run in the 12th inning of San Diego's 6-5 win at Colorado. The Padres led 4-0 at one point but needed extra innings after Wilin Rosario smacked a two-run homer in the eighth.

Lorenzo Cain socked a two-run homer while Kansas City was scoring four times in the eighth inning to beat Minnesota 7-3. Chris Getz supplied a two-run double as the Royals won their second straight in Kansas City since an 11-game home losing streak.

The Nationals and Mets were rained out in Washington. The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on July 26.

SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) — The Houston Astros have used the first overall pick in the baseball draft to select Stanford pitcher Mark Appel (ah-PEHL'), who was 10-4 with a 2.12 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 106 1/3 innings for the Cardinal this year.

Appel was selected eighth overall by the Pirates in last year's draft before deciding to return to school for his senior season.

The Chicago Cubs took University of San Diego third baseman Kris Bryant with the second overall pick, and University of Oklahoma pitcher Jonathan Gray was selected by the Rockies with the No. 3 pick.

NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball's lawyers have issued subpoenas to Federal Express, AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile USA in an attempt to gain records for its investigation of players suspected of using performance-enhancing drugs. The subpoenas were issued May 23, according to a case file in Florida's Circuit Court for Miami-Dade County, where MLB sued Biogenesis of America, anti-aging clinic head Anthony Bosch and five others in March. Because any discipline could be challenged by the players' association in grievances before an arbitrator, MLB likely would want records to corroborate any testimony given by Bosch.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nationals star Bryce Harper will see a specialist next week because the swelling in his knee hasn't improved. Washington manager Davey Johnson says that the outfielder will visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday for a second opinion on the young slugger's left knee. Harper hasn't felt quite right since running into the wall at Dodger Stadium on May 13. He's eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday.
