UNDATED (AP) — Chicago Cubs catcher Dioner (dee-AH'-nur) Navarro and Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman entered Wednesday's major league action with just three home runs all season. They each managed to double their production.

Navarro and Zimmerman became the third and fourth players to hit three homers in a game this season, joining Detroit's Miguel Cabrera and Will Middlebrooks of Boston.

Navarro set career highs with three homers and six RBIs as the Cubs hammered the White Sox 9-3. Navarro became the first Cub to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game since 2002, and the team's first catcher to homer three times since George Mitterwald in 1974 against the Pirates. He also scored four times and raised his batting average from .200 to .241 in the Cubs' third straight win.

Zimmerman's first career three-homer game was wasted by the Nationals in a 9-6 loss to the Orioles in Baltimore. Zimmerman homered in each of his first three at-bats and gave the Nats a 6-2 lead with his fifth-inning blast before the Orioles put together a six-run seventh to steal the victory.

Chris Davis hit a solo drive in the fourth and capped the seventh-inning rally with his major-league leading 19th homer, a two-run shot off Tyler Clippard.

Also in the majors, Melky Cabrera went 3-for-3 with a two-run single in Toronto's 3-0 shutout of Atlanta. Four Blue Jays pitchers combined to hold the Braves to four hits.

Dominic Brown hit two of Philadelphia's four solo homers in a 4-3 victory over Boston. Erik Kratz and Ryan Howard also went deep to back Kyle Kendrick, who allowed two runs and four hits in six innings.

Pedro Alvarez hit a two-run double while the Pirates scored four times in the seventh to beat the Tigers 5-3 in Detroit. Neil Walker had two of Pittsburgh's eight hits, including a solo homer.

Lucas Duda, Marlon Byrd and Ike Davis drove in two runs apiece as the New York Mets ripped the Yankees 9-4 for their fourth straight win. Jeremy Hefner allowed three runs in six innings for his first victory since a 0-5 start.

Roberto Hernandez came within one out of a complete game, allowing an unearned run and three hits in Tampa Bays' 3-1 verdict over Miami. Kelly Johnson and Yunel Escobar each drove in a run as the Rays won their fourth in row while sending the Marlins to their season-worst eighth consecutive loss.

St. Louis earned a 5-3 win against Kansas City on pinch-hitter Daniel Descalso's two-run single in the bottom of the eighth. Matt Holliday and Carlos Beltran homered for the Cardinals, who have won seven of eight and lead the majors with a 35-17 record.

Justin Masterson is 8-3 after allowing one run and four hits in six innings of Cleveland's 5-2 win against Cincinnati. Jason Giambi and Mark Reynolds homered as the Indians broke a five-game losing streak.

J.D. Martinez singled home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning before Carlos Pena homered in a three-run ninth that lifted Houston past Colorado 6-3. The Rockies lost despite Troy Tulowitzki's (too-loh-WITS'-kees) two homers and three RBIs.

Mark Trumbo's two-run homer and three RBIs led the Angels' offense in a 4-2 win over the Dodgers. Jered Weaver was sharp over six innings, striking out seven and holding the Dodgers to one run, five hits and no walks.

Nate Freiman hit a two-run single and had three RBIs as Oakland won its sixth in a row, outscoring San Francisco 9-6. Giants starter Tim Lincecum's (LIHN'-she-cuhmz) struggles continued as he allowed five earned runs and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings to fall to 3-5 with a 5.12 ERA.

Kyle Blanks hit a game-tying, sacrifice fly in the ninth inning before Will Venable's RBI single game San Diego a 3-2, 10-inning win over Seattle. The Padres' rally came after Jason Bay hit a solo homer in the ninth to put the Mariners ahead 2-1.

Aaron Hicks homered for the second straight day and made a run-saving catch as Minnesota downed Milwaukee 5-3. Samuel Deduno allowed a run and four hits while pitching into the eighth inning, the longest outing for a Twins hurler in more than a month.

Arizona's game at Texas has been postponed by severe thunderstorms and will be made up at a later date.

UNDATED (AP) — New York Yankees Mark Teixeira (teh-SHEHR'-uh) and Kevin Youkilis (YOO'-kih-lihs) are starting a two-game rehab stint tonight in New Jersey. If all goes well, Teixeira and Youkilis could be back in the Bronx by the end of the week for the start of a weekend series against Boston.

The cornerstones of the New York Yankees infield at first and third base will play for the Trenton Thunder, the Yankees' Double-A affiliate.

Teixeira is recovering from a right wrist injury sustained while playing with Team USA before the World Baseball Classic. Youkilis has missed nearly 30 games with a back injury.
