After a widespread, weeklong effort, search teams on Saturday found footprints believed to have been left by a missing 16-year-old boy.

The track, determined to be that of Joseph Peterson, is believed to be several days old, according to the Natrona County Sheriff's Office.

Monday, searchers focused on the area where the footprints were found and the direction in which the track leads. The prints were found several miles from Peterson's home, and "provided a general direction of travel through very steep mountainous terrain," the sheriff's office announced.

Two new search dog teams were being used Monday, with another pair possibly on the way.

Peterson walked away from his home Sunday, Nov. 10, between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. His home is located in the area of Goose Creek and Hat Six Road.
