LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — A group of sports federations opposes the decision to cut wrestling from the 2020 Olympics.

The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations says the process that led to wrestling's exclusion by the IOC executive board last month is not "in the best interests of the IOC or the Olympic movement."

The group says it will send a "constructive letter" to the IOC stating its position and offering to help with a "different process in future."

Wrestling's governing body is a member of the federation group. Wrestling is now competing with seven other sports for one opening on the 2020 program.

The Association of National Olympic Committees also has come out in support of wrestling's bid to stay in the games.
